Brush Lettering How To
I’ve been taking a break from my pens and have been enjoying calligraphy and brush lettering more lately. It is really insightful to have experience with different instruments to see how the style varies due to differences between applicators. While I like to craft a lot of my work with Micron pens, having an understanding of brush dynamics really gives an advantage in knowing how the thicks and thins of the curves in letters actually function.
Looking at specimens is helpful, but there’s nothing quite like watching a letter be created. Eliza Schulte Holliday has some fantastic videos where she demonstrates and explains numerous styles, different brushes, and techniques for creating a wide variety of brush lettering.
