“Most People Are About As Happy As They Make Up Their Minds To Be”
Happiness, for me, has never been something that I consider to be circumstantial. We’re all given different lots in life and I believe that yours in particular is what you make of it. I’ve found that by making a conscious effort to focus on the positive things in my life that have been given to me, my existence is incredibly rich regardless of my situation. I wanted to sketch the famous quote by Abraham Lincoln to exemplify that attitude.
The drawing received a very positive response, I found myself getting many requests for prints of the design. While I very much wanted to satisfy the demand, doing a print run can be rather difficult (without turning the endeavor into a full time gig). Naturally, smaller runs are more expensive, and it’s difficult to gauge interest without doing a round of pre-orders. I knew that I did not want to do pre-orders because I didn’t want interested parties to wait—I find that a bit tacky.
Rather than put anyone to the trouble of pre-ordering, I bit the bullet and invested a small fortune of my savings to make this project happen. I entertained the thought of simple black and white prints, but ultimately felt that the message called for something brighter and more positive. I wanted to use colors that represented happiness, but didn’t want to limit my audience in the case that the chosen color did not appeal to everyone. I decided on doing a run of two colors, both of which I feel are quite happy and gives everyone a choice.
I’m hoping this will appeal to people enough to at least offset my costs and make this worth it. Ideally, proceeds beyond cost recovery will go toward making future prints possible, so I truly appreciate your support!
Each poster is numbered and signed by hand and will be shipped on the very next business day immediately following the purchase to arrive in less than a week.
When it came to quality, I really went all out. I had the design printed on a nice poster paper that holds up well. I’d heard horror stories of prints getting destroyed in the mail so I ordered a bulk of large, 3″ shipping tubes to ensure a pristine delivery and to keep the worst from happening. To top it all off and to make it extra special, I did a limited run of die-cut stickers of my trademark ampersand to include free with the first 25 purchases.
